Networking with politicians was the last thing I expected from CEO, but boy am I glad that I was given the chance! While entertaining to discuss, politics is normally not the area that I like to delve into. However, Tom Demmer, Tony McCombie, and Kate Jennings really enlightened the political scene for me. With so much to consider when representing a district of Illinois, it can be extremely challenging to maximize happiness for citizens! Pleasing citizens of Illinois by representing them is much like pleasing customers in business by listening to them. Tony showed that even in a district where her party was not the majority, one can lead simply by proving to have the most beneficial values for everyone at the time. This is much like in business, where one can show potential customers the opportunity in purchasing some product or service.
Thankfully, the representatives also spoke about the differences between the perception and reality of politics. Tom really highlighted his view on the parties, saying all the hate of opposite parties comes from rare and few bills that the parties disagree on, and Tony supported this. There is certainly much to be learned from the leaders of this state!

Once again, I am very glad to have seen the adult leadership class! They are always fun to work with, and they are great for having meaningful conversations about entrepreneurship with, especially since they are working on leadership projects themselves! It is definitely refreshing to see others in a similar boat as us. If you had us meet again, that would be pretty cool! (although it would probably be hard to fit into the schedule at this point)
One thing that I found very interesting was the life of Christopher Heimerman. I never really knew much about journalists or anything like that, but he definitely shed some light on it. The amount of trust that a company or individual has to put in a news corporation to wait on releasing news is unbelievable. Serious kudos to Christopher for being able to be an honorable man and keep his promises.
On Friday, I really enjoyed making the bridges in our team project. It’s true that the challenge was a bit on the easy side, but the idea is definitely a good start. We can all learn from stuff like this! Maybe some of our individual businesses will have good ideas but an implementation that could be improved? I hope that we can share our progress with the class at an appropriate point and then give advice to the others to help each other out; that would be awesome!

Astec Mobile Screens was definitely much different than I thought it was. I have to agree with Evan in originally thinking that it was for some sort of cell phone service. However, it was very interesting to see what they actually did and how they made a business out of it. Even though their product is incredibly specific and circumstantial, they somehow make a profit. It’s good to know that it can be profitable to do something as specialized as that as long as there is a demand for the product or service…
...The highlight of this week is definitely the announcements of the mentor matches! I’m very happy to be paired with Terry McGuire of Halo. I already started emailing him about times that we can meet, and we decided that we’ll see each other after he comes back from his Thanksgiving vacation, so it will be very interesting to see how he can help me to create a (hopefully) profitable business!
