This week in CEO, I really enjoyed our day at WSDR! I have had a ton of people, especially people at church this morning, tell me that they enjoyed hearing about each of our businesses and ask me questions about the Trade Show. I think it was great publicity, as well as great practice talking about our businesses. A lot of students, myself included, I think need some practice describing and selling our business. We have everything in our mind planned out, but have trouble communicating it to others who don't quite get the vision. I think our Pack the Place Day coming up will really be great practice for that too! I wasn't sure what that was so now I'm really looking forward to it! It will be a challenge with no product examples, but that will just make us even better once we have it.
Editor's note: Pack the Place is an open house for students to practice communication skills with visitors. Plan to stop by United Way on Wednesday, April 26, 7:50-9:00 a.m.

After banker day and business plan day I am so excited for the trade show! Although I am upset that I will not be able to attend the actual event, I am still so ready to prepare my business. And after the Cattle Auction yesterday, I have a few more photos to add to the collection!
But before the Trade Show, I am really looking forward to the Ag Day! I spoke with probably the most highly regarded man in the cattle industry, Tom Burke, and although he will fly in from Wyoming the night before and fly to Pennsylvania after class, he should be able to come speak to us! I couldn't believe that he actually had free time to come on that day, so I am so excited! I hope the rest of the class realizes how important he is and what an honor it is that he's speaking to us. As my dad said, "He's basically the Donald Trump of livestock." Lol!
When my dad came to find out what we would want from speakers, Dylan brought up the discussions, which I definitely agreed with. As I was talking to Tom, I said that discussion on controversial topics would really keep our class engaged, so I can't wait to see what he comes up with.

The field trip this week was so much fun! I wish we would've gotten to go on one earlier in the year because it was so great to see people out of their hour and a half of CEO. It forced us to socialize about more than just class, like how the Fiesta Day Parade did. I felt as though I left both tours with so much insight about how those individuals view business; it always speaks so much for a point when we hear something from one speaker and then hear it again from another. The ideas that carry over to every speaker are the ones that will make us successful.
This coming week, I'm very excited to see what they will have to say about my business plan. Because the pictures are expensive, I figured something that anyone could buy, like the note cards, would be my best bet to sell at the Trade Show.

Because only Kody and I were able to experience the delivery of the Food Bank presents, I figured I would talk about that in my journal this week.
Everything still went great! With all the presents we bought and wrapped, along with the amazingly generous amount of food given by the Food Bank, my car was filled to the brim. The first family we delivered to, which had two kids, was very thankful and had us unload everything onto their front porch. The second family, which had 4 kids, asked us to carry everything into their house. As we went inside and put presents under their tree, I couldn't help but think about how very blessed I am in all areas of my life.
Once again, I am so thankful for CEO and the experiences that have been presented to me as a result of the class.

This week, during the Prom Committee meeting at the high school I realized something about myself that is 100% a result of CEO. First of all, although Karley and I usually dominate the discussion, I realized that we have become much more efficient in our decision-making and the way our discussion goes. We come to the meetings having already looked over and thought about what the topic is that day, while others on the committee arrive having not even acknowledged their jobs since the last meeting.
Secondly, before CEO, my approach to any questionable topic was that the teacher or adult could figure it out for me. But this week, without even thinking about it, I volunteered to email someone I did not know and meet with them to ask questions and gather information for the next meeting. Last year, when that topic came up, I would have never even thought about being able to email someone I don't know because I didn't even know I was capable of such a thing! I would've waited for the teacher to figure it out.
Lastly, I caught myself asking every one at the end of our very informal meeting what their "action items" were and if they knew what they would have done by the next time we meet, something I would never have done before this year.
As we walked out of the meeting, one of my friends asked me when I became "so formal," and it made me question how I ever got anything done before CEO.
I'm so thankful for the confidence and abilities this class has given me.
