The final 3 speakers for the East leadership series. I cannot believe tomorrow is our recognition event!
Monday: Dr. PJ Caposey, Superintendent of Oregon CUSD 220, best selling author, and keynote speaker is no stranger to success. He is the Illinois Superintendent of the Year, and was a a finalist for National Superintendent of the Year. However, PJ discussed his failures, and how he learned from them more than his successes. He asked students to begin thinking about money and how they measure success. A quote that he shared was “Humility is understanding that everyone has a story and most people’s are better than yours.”
Tuesday: Dr. Tad Everett, Superintendent of Sterling CUSD #5. Tad challenged students to not only have a strategy to go along with their goals, but to have a plan in place to own and execute the strategy. Otherwise that goal just becomes a dream. He encouraged the class to think about their start line, and how the journey to the finish line will play out. He attributes a lot of his success to figuring out how to fall in love with reading. He gave a lot of great book recommendations to students who want to build on their character, which is the number one thing he looks for when hiring employees.
Wednesday: The final speaker for the east class every year is Rob LeSage, partner at Ward Murray Pace and Johnson. Rob asked students to put away notebooks, and gave a quick elevator speech on his background, and spent the next hour learning about each student, and had them ask him one question minimally that could involve anything but money. Topics discussed today was work hard, play hard, traveling, go to class even when you don’t want to, learning good study habits, being an undecided major, and why he became a lawyer.
This is always an impactful week for each ceo class, as we as facilitators work very hard to instill the “finish strong” mentality once the trade show is over. Thank you so much to each and every individual who has shared their space and stories withth this incredible group of young adults.
